I'm Dan Scott, barista, library geek, and open source dabbler.
You may know me from such projects as PHP
(PEAR's File_MARC package and
PDO documentation),
Apache Derby, and the
Evergreen open-source ILS project.
This is slightly in advance of our official press release, which is currently in translation, but I will be giving / have given a lightning talk at Access 2007 on this subject and have decided to make the following materials available:
Dan, thanks for a good report on 'assessing evergreen for an academic bilingual library'. I am in the process of evaluating Evergreen for a public library in China. Given your understanding of Evergreen's internalization code, I am wondering if you see any potential issues with using double-byte characters in Postgre, web and staff client interface? I would be also very interested in your advice on how I should proceed with testing DBCS on Evergreen?
Congratulations on commiting to the migration at Laurentian, and good luck on it. I hope I can help at some point.
