Tuesday, February 28. 2006Live blogging WWdN #16: Robbie Robb InvitationalLast week at the WWdN#15 I exceeded my original goals, but failed to make it to the cash after a couple of my hammer bluffs were called (to ruinous effect) by This week, I have a new goal: I want a piece of that money, baby, that sweet sweet WWdN cash. Dare to dream. I'm going to rub it all over my chest, slide it around between my thighs, and lick it from end to end. Oh yeah... Mmm, that got me going, so I've kind of made a mess of this week's entry fee. You don't mind, do you? Oh? Hmm. Sorry. The reason for my new focus on cash is that I had a bit of a nasty weekend, you see, where I dropped about $150 in a continuous string of bad beats in SNGs. Overall, I'm still up about $350 since starting this whole sordid affair in October... but $500 is such a nice, round number, I would like to get back to it. I learned last week that Tactix is brother to Joane1111, and also that elcee (not bluegillchow, what was I thinking) is Joanne1111's father. In the interest of full disclosure and honesty, I have to reveal that dsheep is my brother and NHL 200X is my cousin. Interestingly, both of them have been, are now, and will once again be my lovers. So, for all of you people wandering through my blog for the first time shaking your head at my little poker addiction--it's nothing compared to good clean incestuous fun. Whooo! The live-blogging didn't seem to hurt my game too much last week, so I'll give it a shot again this time around. While you might not get live blogs, you can probably get a much better post-game account from the far more interesting blogs of SirFWALGman and slimeface. A final note for you slack-jawed cretins who fail to enter the tournament until mere moments before the tourney starts: you can register a few hours ahead of time, turn off your Pokerstars client, and join the game at any time. This leaves you free to have a relaxing dinner with your spouse, teach your nephew some new and obscure profanity, and get half-way through a house repair job before you have to join the game. If you don't register in advance, and you're late, then you miss out on all the fun, period. So, in your Pokerstars client, go to Tourney -> Private -> WWdN #16 and enter the password monkey. It's a shot at fame, glory, and sweet sweet cash (albeit cash smeared against my body). And it's the best damn fun on the whole dang Intuhnaht! 8:12 62 people have entered so far. It's close. I can smell it. 8:30 The cards are in the air. I'm playing right after on_thg, a player I first encountered at the last WWdN. I remember him as a fairly aggressive player... let's see what happens. 8:32 I have the hammer on my third hand UTG, raise to $80, get a caller... damn! Flop comes 3-5-7 rainbow -- oh yeah, raise to $80 and the caller folds. But sadly in my excitement I hit "Don't Show" and am consigned to telling the table about my glorious hammer. So sad. 8:32 dsheep is at the table, with over $3000 in chips. Guess he doubled up nice and early. 8:33 Jaym4343 takes a bunch of my chips when my open-ended straight draw catches nothing but a high pair on the river, while Jay was sitting on a flopped set of 7's... sigh. 8:39 I relieve phluxer of a few chips when I flop a set of 5's. The board is pretty ugly in a 5c-7c-10d kind of way, and I throw in my standard continuation bet. Rookette22 folds, but phluxer calls. At the turn (7d) we both check, at the river (8c) phluxer waits, then lays out a $320 bet. I hope he has a flush, not a higher full house, and reraise... he folds, and I guess I'll never know... but I was back to even (which was nice for a change). 8:51 Tactix shows up at my table. Cool! He's a little hurt, at $915, but has plenty of fight left in him yet. 8:56 mrpants13 moans that he had the 8:58 sooted HAMMER in the big blind... but too many people are in for a 3xBB preflop, so I have to fold. Sigh. I hear ya, mrpants13. 9:01 Tactix doubles up when his pocket 4's catch a completely unnecessary third 4 on the river to suck cash from Jaym4343. Tactix is back up to $775 with that manoeuvre. 9:07 on_thg and I push back and forth with nothing hands -- the glory of being the big blind to on_thg's small blind, and both trying to . On the river, we both check, and reveal -- I have KQ, he has K9. That gives me a nice boost to my chip count, now sitting around $1680. 9:09 Tactix leads out with a bet of $200. I'm sitting with AQo, and decide to push him all-in. Everyone else folds around, Tactix goes into the tank and says "I think I'm behind" but calls. He flips over KQ; a 10-J on the flop gives him a straight draw, but the K on the river gives me the straight instead and sends him home. Good game Tactix! 9:19 Hoyazo meets his maker when dsheep rebuffs his preflop raise and they end up going all in preflop -- to reveal AA (dsheep) vs. A5 (Hoyazo). Hoyazo's hand does not improve, and he says "i cannot believe it". Hoyazo played strong all night, and was a bit of a thorn in my side... but I'll miss him nonetheless 9:25 I ask "Is there such a thing as a folding station? Cause I think I might be one" due to having folded endless crappy hands. And then I raise my small blind (A9o) against mrpants13 and he folds, in turn. Phew. I don't mind being a bit of a liar. 9:30 At the break, there are 40 players left from the original 91. The breakdown is:
It turns out that Wil went out in 80th place tonight. I don't know what happened there! Rumour has it that elcee took him out. 9:38 I don't waste too much time post-break... after a couple of hands I get pocket 8's. Not the strongest hand in the world, but my best opening hand so far. 23skidoo is the only caller to my $600 (4xBB) bet. Flop is 10-9-6, giving me a gutshot straight as an additional out. I don't like the two higher cards, but put 23skidoo on something like AQ. He bets $600, half of my remaining stack, which is his duty as the big stack... I duly go all in, and he turns over pocket jacks. Well, that's not good. I don't get a 7 or an 8, and I'm out of the tourney in 39th place. 9:49 dsheep is still going strong -- his pocket 9's made a set on the turn to take out Frankl66's pocket jacks (along with Frankl66's chips) and move into second place on the (b)leaderboard. 9:59 wwonka tangles with Up4Poker, and the chocolate factory mans's pocket 8's turn into a straight (and a set, but that's just overkill) against Up4Poker's two pair. Up4Poker is gone in 30th place. 10:07 mirven, in a double elimination, knocks out SERNE and Robbie Robb when her flush crushes SERNE's pair o' nines and Robbie Robb's straight. With 15509 in chips, though, mirven is merely in second place to BrainMC (20000). 10:12 dsheep (T8000) and BrainMc (T20000) mix it up. Community shows A543K; BrainMC checks on the river, dsheep bets his remaining 5000, and BrainMC calls. dsheep shows pocket sixes, BrainMC shows A9, and dsheep is out of the tourney in 23rd place on a rather unusual tactic... 10:27 psycoma (T8900) has been up and down in chips all night. She calls lifesagrind's post-flop all-in, and shows A6 (having caught the top pair of the 556 flop) against lifesagrind's AK. Of course, kings fall on the turn and river, and psycoma is crippled with T700 chips. One hand later, Luck080 calls psycoma's all-in and her Q6 do not improve against A6. Psycoma / Kathy is out in 17th place, and Luck080 is up to T6900 in chips. 10:34 Luck080, having earned a reputation for silence (broken only by the memorable "This thing has a chat box?", is sent to the rail when his suited AJ catches a second J on the flop and he goes all in against The Subhuman -- who happens to be sitting on cowboys. Luck080 does not improve and he goes silently into the night in 16th place. 10:35 Second break. One of these days I will actually be in the tournament at the second break. Our leaders, out of a field of 13, are:
10:43 Right out of the break, ZeemJr doubles up his pitifully small stack (T1485) when his J5 make an improbable straight against The SubHuman's 37 (which caught a pair of 7's on the flop, but couldn't hold up). This gets ZeemJr back on his horse, and before you know it he has knocked out memento2199 when her pocket 7's fail to stay the course against ZeemJr's suited A2 with an ace on the flop. 10:50 We're down to the final table after The SubHuman catches a monster boat with 9's over Q's to send michelmichel's A5 packing. |

Incest: certainly good fun... but clean? I think you're forgetting Christmas of 2003. There was nothing clean about THAT (shudder/moan)...
