Thanks for the kind words, Peter. To be fair, there is some discussion about Flash accessibility in recent versions of Flash and particular screen readers. I'd love to hear from people who have actually gone down that route; my guess is that you would be tightly tied to Windows and expensive proprietary software, but that's only a guess.

Also, I completely forgot that most mobile devices won't be too happy encountering Flash, and even if they can render Flash, trying to scale the text or reformat the layout to reflect the limited screen sizes will be a problem.

SuperConference is turning into an OSS powerhouse. In addition to the fantastic Evergreen content, Kevin Stranack will be giving an overview of open source options, Shann Leighton, William VanKeuren, and Wilda Allen will be describing how six autonomous libraries have formed a consortium to share KOHA, Michael Vandenburg and Cameron Metcalf will be covering CMS migrations where open source "reigns supreme" (to quote Iron Chef), and the leading OSS contender for CMS goodness, Drupal, takes center stage with Amanda Etches-Johnson, Catherine Baird, and Greg Sennema. Mark Leggott will also be on hand to explain how to harness disruptive technologies (and only a subversive inoculation would stop Mark from incorporating OSS into his pontification), Bartek Kawula is talking about OpenBiblio for the small and special library, Brian Beaton is describing the amazing K-Net which is powered by the OSS Nuke platform, and Loren Fantin will be demonstrating the OurOntario.ca suite which is open source. In the browser plugin category, Melissa Belvadi will be including LibX in her round-up of finding tools, and Cynthia Bail will be describing Zotero in her overview of citation tools. To bring it full circle, Stacy Allison Cassin and William Denton will be including the philosophy of Dan Chudnov in presenting their vision of One Big Library. Throw in some content on green computing and Toronto becomes a very hot destination at the end of January!

Hey, that ticket is bang-on - and of course it wends its way back through Gabriel and you. Go code4lib!

I'm certainly glad that you were at the Hackfest in Access 2006 - it was my first Access experience, and that conference helped restore my faith in the library community. The Hackfest and your enthusiasm were a large part of that.

Surely you won't be able to turn down Access 2009 at Charlottetown in PEI?

Indeed! I have been collecting the presentation materials from the speakers and posting them on our institutional repository at https://zone.biblio.laurentian.ca/dspace/handle/10219/303

Note that one of the excellent points Dr. Ellaway made about OpenCourseWare was that, while some faculty had expressed concern that making their slides openly available would put them out of a job, her position was that if you can be replaced by your slides, then you deserve to be out of a job. So, the slides are there (for the most part, hopefully the collection will be complete soon), but you're only getting one thin slice of the content... next time perhaps I'll try to record the sessions!

Dan, thank you so much for the page and all your info. One more question and then I'll leave you alone! Do you think this could be because it doesn't like that I've been writing entries in word and then copying them over or a similar entry style problem? I can't think of what else I am doing wrong. Looking at the site you gave me, it seems not to like most of my characters. Any other suggestions? Thanks again for all your help.

Bravo. I love the idea. There really is so much that Evergreen has been useful for that already far exceeds the initial intent of its planning sessions. Having sat in on a session or two and as a library administrator and end user it is so exciting to think of new ways that the software can and has been used. I love the Weeding 2.0 idea as it goes beyond the literal text of collection development policies and does it for you. While the actualities of getting Evergreen to work in your proposed idea would certainly involve a great deal more on the programming end, one can certainly dream!
